Or: Is your body too short for your weight?

The body mass index (BMI) is a rough guide to the ratio of body weight to height.
Being overweight (pre-obesity) is defined when the BMI is above the value of 25. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), obesity is divided into three degrees of severity, since the risk of diseases such as diabetes mellitus increases with increasing severity.
With a BMI of 25-30, the risk of developing diabetes is increased by 10%.
With a BMI >30 it is already 30% and with a BMI value of >40 it is 60%.

In the following table you can easily estimate your body mass index.
